I have some exciting news to share about Kat Stafford. We have expanded her beat on the Race and Ethnicity team to prioritize investigations. As the national investigative race writer, she will produce enterprise and projects focused on race. The deep dives and investigations that we envision Kat tackling will encompass and analyze how structural racism has fueled inequity and manifested in every corner of American life, spanning such topics as environmental justice, housing, health and politics. She will also examine how the inception and enforcement of policies through agencies, with an emphasis on those on the federal level, have impacted communities of color. While her beat will be concentrated on investigations, Kat will continue to contribute to the R&E team’s spot coverage on issues that intersect with race. Kat still will report to me, but she will also work closely with Global Investigations Editor Ron Nixon and his team. In addition to Kat’s expanded role, other members of the R&E team will be working to redefine their beats as well with an eye toward more coverage of systemic racism. The team looks forward to another year of collaborating with so many of you to tell these important stories. Andale
