New beat team for migration coverage

, by Patrick Maks

AP today announced the creation of an all-formats beat team that will cover migration in Africa, Europe and the Middle East.

News Director for Europe and Africa Anna Johnson sent this memo to staff:

We are excited to announce the creation of a new multi-region beat team focused on migration.
Co-led by Southern Europe News Director Karl Ritter and Barcelona-based video journalist Renata Brito, the team already is up and running, bringing together staff from all formats in Europe, Africa and the Middle East who have a special interest in migration coverage. Migration coverage has been a priority in recent years resulting in powerful spot and enterprise stories. What we’re aiming to do now is to elevate that coverage even more and make it more cohesive and impactful by coordinating reporting efforts across regions and pooling our collective knowledge and expertise on this topic in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. We also will work closely with colleagues in other regions, including the immigration beat team in the U.S. Thank you, Anna, Karl & Renata
