What we fact-check and why
In a memo to staff Tuesday, Vice President for Standards John Daniszewski reviewed AP’s general fact-checking policies:
Getting the facts right
Accuracy in news reporting always has been AP’s top priority. The reliability of news has become a hot topic in recent months with the proliferation of so many so-called “fake news” stories on social media platforms.
The fight against fake news
As part of its broader fact-checking efforts, The Associated Press announced Thursday that it will work with Facebook to help identify and debunk trending "news" stories being shared online that are false.
Writing about the 'alt-right'
Recent developments have put the so-called "alt-right" movement in the news. They highlight the need for clarity around use of the term and around some related terms, such as "white nationalism" and "white supremacism."
New head of international news and editor at large for standards are named
Senior Vice President and Executive Editor Kathleen Carroll today announced two key appointments: Ian Phillips is the new Vice President for International News and John Daniszewski becomes the new Editor at Large for Standards.
